In Class Sketches XIV

We went to the Zoo once again.  This time I tried to focus on the skulls and heads of the animals as this has been a bit of a week point for me.

In Class Skecthes XIII

We went to the zoo again!  This times we did drawings that were a bit longer and a bit more detailed.  One orangutang was lying with his face inches from the glass and his eyes would flicker to me every once and a while as a drew him.

Cafe Sketch HW VII

This week we were supposed to choose 20 of are sketches that we thought were aesthetically appealing, then make 5 new appealing sketches.  I found that the sketches I liked the most had confident strokes and conveyed movement.  I took some of my old sketches and pushed them to try to make them more appealing.

Here are the new sketches

and here are the 20 I picked out as appealing.

In Class Gestures XII

Last Friday we went to a nature center to draw gestures of the animals there.  I loved seeing some of the birds, especially the owls.

Cafe Sketch In-Class Gestures X

Last Friday we studied canines.  In the morning we drew gestures from pictures on the internet.  Later, I had the opportunity to draw a pit bull and a wolf!  Now I can say I pet a real wolf!  The wolf was brought to us by Iron Wolves.  To learn more about them and their mission click here.

Cafe Sketch In-Class Gestures IX

This last Friday in cafe sketch we started by drawing a model for 30 second increments and then 2 minute increments.  Later in the day, I went to the Ballet Met to draw the dancers in a ballet lesson.  Many thanks to the dancers who are always a pleasure to draw as well as friendly.

Cafe Sketch HW VI

This week for homework we were assigned to draw 50 sketches of our favorite animal.  I decided to do the red fox.  I love foxes, partly because of their beauty and part because my last name "fuchs" translates to "fox."  It was interesting to watch the movement of these creatures which are sometimes cat-like and at other times dog-like.

Cafe Sketch In-Class Gestures VIII

Last friday, we warmed up by drawing some fast sketches of animals from pixelovely.com.  Then, we went to the Ohio Expo Center to draw APALCAS.  They had a show on Saturday, but were setting up the alpacas on the Friday.  I love these creatures.  They always look as if they are smiling.

Cafe Sketch In-Class Gestures VII

Last Friday, we went to the Arnold Sports Festival to draw gestures of the athletes.  I really wanted to draw martial arts, but we could not find where that event was being held.  For most of the time, we drew the girls participating in gymnastics competitions.  They were all very talented.

Cafe Sketch In-class Gestures VI

Last Friday in my Cafe Sketch class we drew from a live model during our morning session.  There were some very interesting posses in terms of weight and stance.  We use bean shapes to help us interpret the movement of the torso.

Later in the day we went to the North Market to draw and characterized the people there.
